The gray scale as shown on both sides of this text is a wide range of monochromatic shades from white to black or black to white. In art, white is the absence of color , while black is the presence of all colors. Always remember that a grey scale does NOT contain any set of color! The picture on the right is my first grey scale painted in acrylic paint achieving this grey scale was no easy task, it takes a lot of time and trial and error. After completing the painted grey scale my next task was to complete the picture on the left. Which was based on paper cut-outs in order to achieve a similar grey scale with the exception of painting the edges the mid grey on the right hand picture. Believe it or not all of these exercises help to understand color perception and the effect of black and white on colors.
